If you’ve run out of your regular medication and are unable to get a prescription in time, our Emergency Medicines Service may be able to help by supplying a short course of your medicine — ensuring you don’t miss a dose.
What Is the Emergency Medicines Service?
This NHS-funded service allows our pharmacist to provide a short supply of your regular prescribed medicine in an emergency, without the need for a new prescription — as long as it’s clinically appropriate and you meet the criteria.
This service is designed to help when your GP surgery is closed or you cannot access a prescription in time, and is available for most prescription-only medicines.
How it works:
1. Visit or contact our pharmacy
and explain your situation.
2. Have a confidential consultation
with our pharmacist.
3. We’ll check your medical history
and confirm your previous prescription if possible.
4. If suitable,
we’ll supply a short course of your medication to tide you over until you can see your GP.
Who Can Use the Service?
Patients who have previously been prescribed the medicine.
Those unable to get a prescription in time due to unforeseen circumstances.
Certain restrictions apply — controlled drugs and some medicines may not be eligible.
What You’ll Need:
Personal details
Details of your previous prescription or packaging (if available)
Photo ID may be requested
Important to Know:
This service is intended for emergency situations only.
It is not a replacement for regular repeat prescriptions.
If we are unable to supply your medicine, we will advise you on the best next steps or refer you to another appropriate service.
